They are a lot thinner than the plastic ones I normally use so there was a lot more room in my closet. Also, because of the velvet, they are very good at preventing clothes from falling off. I wanted to make some more space in my closet. These added a tiny bit more room(meaning less than 1 inch for 50 hangers that might increase for summer clothes though). Don't bother with getting the clips they break easily. This style seems stronger than the plain shirt hangers do. I like the fact that the clothes don't slip off like they did on the plastic tubular hangers. I also found the same color velvet hangers at Wal-mart, they look identical, for much less!
